The new NextMinute mobile app: FAQ

Answers to common questions about the rebuilt NextMinute mobile app, from tablets and the calendar to logging time.

This article answers common questions about the rebuilt NextMinute mobile app, including how to spot the new app, using it on a tablet or iPad, logging time, and a few common how-tos.

Is the email about a new NextMinute app genuine?

Yes. NextMinute has rebuilt its mobile app. The new app is the one in the App Store or Google Play with a new banner on its icon.

It's always good to be cautious. If you're unsure about an email, ask support first. See How do I download the NextMinute mobile app? for the download links.

What changes in the new app? What should I tell my team?

There are no major changes to your team's workflow. The app just looks a lot nicer.

If anyone on your team runs into issues with the new app, contact support.

Can I use the new app in landscape on a tablet or iPad?

Not at the moment. The new app is designed for mobile phones, not tablets or iPads.

On a tablet or iPad, log in to NextMinute through your web browser instead. It should scale to the full width of the screen. To use it like an app:

  1. Open your browser and log in to NextMinute.
  2. Bookmark the page.
  3. Save the bookmark to your home screen.

It won't look like the new app, but you can use it in a similar way.

Why can't I get the calendar week view on my iPad, even in desktop mode?

The new app doesn't have dedicated iPad support yet, so on an iPad you use the browser version of NextMinute. Some features, such as the calendar view and job planning, don't currently work the same way in an iPad browser.

Can I see the calendar in the mobile app?

No, the calendar can't currently be viewed in the mobile app. For how to use the calendar in NextMinute, see How to Use the Calendar in NextMinute to View Staff Schedules and Tasks.

I stopped the timer, but no time was saved. Can I get it back?

If the timer entry didn't save, there's no record of that time, so it can't be recovered.

Go back to Timesheets and enter the time you spent on the job manually. See Using the timer on Jobs – Mobile.

If it happens again, let support know.

Why can't I pick a task when logging time on my phone?

First, check your filters. Tap Filters (top right) and clear them.

If the job's tasks still don't show, turn on the task setting for that job:

  1. Open the job and select Edit at the top.
  2. Scroll down to Timesheet and timer entries must be added to tasks and tick it on.
  3. Click Save.

See Forcing time to be added to tasks.

Can I filter tasks to just today when logging time?

Not by date. When you tap Select Task, it shows all open tasks on all jobs. Tasks on archived jobs don't show.

To narrow the list:

  • Filter by Assigned to, so you only see tasks assigned to that user.
  • Search for the job name or number in the search bar.
  • Or choose Select Job first, then select a task on that job.

Can I log hours without choosing a labour item?

No. You need to select a labour rate when entering time against a job, so NextMinute knows the cost.

If a user only ever uses one rate, you can assign it to them:

  1. Go to Sales Items > Labour.
  2. Select the rate.
  3. Click Assign.

See How to invite Your Team & set up their Labour Rates.

Why does a new task default to today's date when I've highlighted another day?

When you add a task after highlighting a day on the calendar, the app doesn't automatically insert that day. You'll need to change the date on the task manually.

I added a new job status, but another user can't see it.

You haven't done anything wrong. The other user may need to clear their cache to refresh fully. Follow the steps in Clear NextMinute cache.

Can the job's charges open in Sections View by default?

No. You need to tap Sections to see Sections View. The quickest way is to scroll down to the charges on the job, then tap Sections.

You can also go to the job, then Actions > Charges > Actions > Sections View.

How can I record which worker a disbursement, like daily mileage, is for?

The code can't be edited when you add a charge to a job. Instead, set up one disbursement per worker, each with the same name but a different code. For example:

  • Code: worker A's initials, Item Name: Daily Mileage
  • Code: worker B's initials, Item Name: Daily Mileage

Users can then search for "Daily Mileage" and select the item by its code. See Adding materials, disbursements & price lists.

Can I preview what each permission level looks like for my crew?

Yes. Create a separate test user with a different email address, such as a personal email. Log in as that user and try the different roles and permissions to see what each type of user can see and do.

Disable the test user before your next charge date, and you won't be charged for the extra user. See Manage Your Existing Users.
