Can I export a quote, edit it in Excel and import it back?
Move your edited data into the Quote Import Template before uploading it.
Yes, but not with the exported file as it is. The CSV you export from a quote isn't in the format NextMinute needs to import, so your edited data has to go into the Quote Import Template before you upload it.
First, check whether you need to export at all
You can reorder line items, move them between sections and adjust sections directly on the quote screen. For most restructuring this is faster than exporting. See How to edit quote details and How to use sections in Quotes.
Steps to export, edit and re-import
- Open the quote and export it to CSV.
- Make your changes in Excel (for example, recoding items or moving them into new sections and levels).
- Download the Quote Import Template.
- Copy your edited data into the matching columns of the template. Section and line-item information must be in the template's columns for NextMinute to read it.
- Create a new quote (or open the quote you want to add to), then click More > Import from File.
- Choose whether to import into sections from the file, a new section or an existing section, and upload the template.
- Check the imported quote before sending it.
Tip: mapping a large export into the template by hand can take a while. An AI tool such as ChatGPT or Claude can do the column mapping for you if you give it both files.
Common issues
- "The import doesn't recognise my file." You're likely uploading the exported CSV directly. Move the data into the Quote Import Template first.
- "Is there a back-office export that matches the import template?" No. Support has access to the same export you do.
